`Eastenders`- Guilty of Stereotyping???!
Question: `Eastenders`- Guilty of Stereotyping!?!?!?
`Eastenders` and `Coronation Street` have been accused of stereotyping and mostly because the ethnic characters have the same bad habits as the non-ethnic!.
Denise in `Eastenders` is condemned as a stereotype because of the abuse suffered by a Caucasian husband and also on account of the kids from two different men!.
To my mind, this exonerates Denise and all the other ethnic characters in the soap; because there is absolutely no difference between `them` and `us`!. Everyone is a pig and everyone lives in a sty!.
Now if you`re going to start saying things like `Blacks don`t do that` you`re going to have everything looking like a Will Smith film!. And hey, nobody wants that, do they!?
Whenever I watch Black characters in USA soaps, I always feel that they have the respect of the audience but there is an invisible line between them and the nonBlack characters!. So long as they make it with another Black (a decent, upstanding type) they`re okay!.

To be frank I don't watch either and I don't care for the opinion of Trevor Phillips about racial stereotyping in soaps!. It's true that actors of different ethnicity just smack of tokens of whatever ethnicity, and are usually play crap characters!. However, surely chavs should be complaining about Dawn on Eastenders, etc, etc!. All characters are stereotypes and I resent the findings of yet another useless report, especially from someone who was paid to advise in the Channel Four Jade/Shilpa Shetty media manufactured 'race row'!. i think thats just nonsense, so what about bianca then!? god knows how many kids shes got, some arent even hers, are they stereotyping a ginger nutt then there or what!. i can see where your coming from but at the same time, its not and cant be thought about first, like their thinking we need a black woman to play the part of a beaten wife by a white man blah blah like a black man wouldnt beat his wife - nonsense, it doesnt matter if they are pink blue or green, if a man would hit his wife he will hit her no matter what colour his skin is or where he comes from!. its only like in soaps they never have a happy ending for a gay couple, or a gay man is always the stereotyped camp character or the blonde is either involved in the sex scandal and is obviuosly a skank cus shes blonde!! we could probably choose ten characters from each soap and come up with some sort of stereotype form the soap has placed them in!.
