I think River Song might be a renegade 51st century time agent and con artist, like Captain Jack was when the Doctor first came across him!.
She's an archaeologist, so I think she might have found the Tardis shaped book (written and lost by the Doctor sometime in his future, but her past) at an archaeological dig, and that it contains lots of information about the Doctor's past and future!. So she's using that information to con him into thinking she knows his future self!. Why, is a mystery as yet, but no doubt it will be for her own benefit and the Doctor's expense!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Right, here is my slightly outlandish(yet certainly possible) theory:
I think Professor River Song is an alien of some kind who is out to get the Doctor!. Kill, suck blood, steal DNA whatever!. She wants to do something decidedly nasty to him!. Now, she has done her research really quite thoroughly!. She knows about Donna, the TARDIS, what he is like etc!.
From what she has found out about him, she knows that you need him to trust you to be able to get close to him!. So, to make him trust her, rather than just befriending him, she creates a character in his future who she pretends to be knowing full well he is capable of believing her!. Wibbly wobbly timey wimey!.!.!.
By him not having met her yet, but her claiming to know him leaves the Doctor with a dilemma!. If she knows him then it is ok to trust her, but because he doesn't know her, he is wary of who she actually is!.
The TARDIS book containing "spoilers" is probably just a prop, something for the Doctor to be tempted by!.
So, when she finally gets the Doctor's trust and he lets his guard and becomes suddenly vulnerable!.!.!.!.WHAM!

I think unless River Song is lying to the Doctor, she is just a future companion or a future love interest or both!. But if she is lying then it can’t be for anything good… What Spacephantom said makes a lot of sense! I don’t know how anyone comes up with such great theories!

i think she was brought in to make people think donna wont be coming back and so she'll trevel with the doctor, but i think shes going to die in the next episode after the doctor finds out how he knows her, so then they wont meet in the future etc!.!.!. im not sure whether that makes sense or notWww@Enter-QA@Com
