We are there. The technology exists right now. In fact, you do not even have to give the order. The computer can detect when you wake up by monitoring your heart rate and adjust not only the lights, but also the heat (or cooling) of the room, and depending on how complex the system, bring up computer programs, websites, or TV channels on your computer or TV for when you wake up. There are also voice recognition, but if you think about it, at least once and a while (unless you had to press a button before making a command), the computer would get confused and turn the lights off while you are talking to someone else thinking that you are talking to the computer. I think the fully automated version is better.
Very far... and you can thank Microsoft for that, if you ask me....
