Questions about TV script writing?!

Question: i enjoy watching suspense/crime tv dramas such as csi, ncis, law and order. sometimes i am amazed by the story line and the plots, the surprise endings, etc.
my questions are (i guess also apply to all suspense novel writing), how the writer structure the story? do they started with ending and working backwards? like they decide who's the killer first and than adding the plots? or the writer writes the script as the event sequence we see in the show? are all the suspense/thriller writers work the same way or all different?
this may sound like a stupid questions, but everytime i try to figure out how they come up with such a complex plot, my mind just doesn't work that way...

All of this depends on the writers'' individual styles and the nature of the story.

Most of the time, the writers will know from the beginning many of the bigger plot points, but then will work on the little things as they go along. Sometimes, they'll get to the end and suddenly get the idea of something brilliant to add in the middle.

With Serial dramas and such, the writers will often add characters and certain devices a bit tentatively, and depending on the audience's acceptance, will keep it in or discard it.

It really differs from one story to another, but the similarity between them all is that they write based on what they think will be a hit with their audience, as well as hopefully bring in new fans.
