since I don't know what you're talking about I'm going to say it's likely a rip off fad.
are you talking about the bluetooth headsets? if so, yes they do work. My ex had one and what you do is go into your phones settings and then connect it and it works that way but your cell phone needs to be fairly close to you otherwise it'll disconnect.
I think they look dumb, I'd never use one.
