Why is it that movies based on successful games usually fail at the box office?!

If the game is already a success, people have the characters pegged in to certain roles and situations. The die hards are the ones that will see the movie just because they want to see what has been done to the character's realm.
The downfall of these movies is that the creators don't usually take risks. They keep the characters in their familiar territory and don't branch out and do something completely different - the Final Fantasy movie is the execution. They took the FF concept, and created *new* characters, and ran with it.
people all ready seen the real thing
because they are based on games
cuz they get bootleged
cuz they suck
no thrill
You pretty much answered your own question.
If it was made to be a movie, they would have made it a movie instead of a video game
Probably because the people that make them don't put enough time and effort into turning them into a screenplay that really works.
I've always wanted them to turn Zelda into a movie, but they probably wouldn't do it right.
I think a lot of the movies had the draw back of being such big sellers as games that they were made as movies on that alone being what would draw the money in. People either want to see a movie or play a game, they don't really want both. Altho i do, i loved super mario bros movie and streetfighter!
Because they should be left as games. It's fun to participate, it's boring to watch.
Everyone likes the games because you can play them, not too watch them.
You know what would make a kick @ss video game...SAW....
normally, they change too much and they get away from what made the game great.
sometimes its because people are such loyal game fans, they notice every little shortcut they take to make the movie.you can't get the same intense scenes right when you have a real life actor, and not computer graphics.plus you get disappointed if they mesh multiple games into one movie or if they get the chronological order of things wrong.
and lets not forget cutting a 12 hour gametime into a 2 hour movie
it's very simple, you can't interact with a movie
because we all know what happens
they have no apeal
The movies don't accurately capture the excitement and entertainment that the game did; that and sometimes the writing is just terrible.
FYI: I LOVE your avatar! BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG from Green Day Rocks!
First of all, watching the game itself is usually so much better.
Second, it's all been done. It's impossible to come up with a new story line, even the real life ones.
Third, where is the action in that? I know some sports movies do have action, but nothing like the car chases that draw crowds.
Hope this helps.
