The instruments in the Inauguration?!
Question: The instruments in the Inauguration!?
Why do you think there wasn't a Viola in playing with Yo Yo Ma!? Who out there thinks that it would have been a great time to make the Viola known to more people!?
Not complaining just curious!.

Well, clarinets and violas have a similar range, so maybe Williams thought adding yet another string instrument(one that shared the range of one of the other instruments in the ensemble) would be overkill!? I think having a viola playing in the ensemble would have been too much: it was hard enough to hear the clarinet and another instrument would have been bad, plus that would have ruined the diversity of the ensemble(though I think another woodwind would have been nice in there)!.
