Answers:
I'm not crazy about mainstream rap, but I love some underground hip-hop artists!. But a majority of the rap (and I -am- generalizing now) seems to be about women, cars, and money--nothing deeper!. Though of course there is the odd song <--and I'm only talking about -mainstream- here: Lil' John (who I believe is a disgrace to music) and Soulja Boy (again!.!.!.disgrace), etc!.

And yes, I think you have great tastes--you listed some of my favorite bands (RHCP, Foo Fighters, and Nirvana)!. You might like:

-The Smashing Pumpkins
-Blind Melon
-Incubus
-Sublime
-Stone Temple Pilots
-Jane's Addiction

***also, have you checked out John Frusciante's (lead guitar, back up vocals for the Chili Peppers) solo work!? He's amazing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm a Metal Zombie!. I am open minded however, so I enjoy some hip-hop!. Mainly company flow, krs, dialated peoples, & raw stuff like that!. I can also appreciate turntablism artist like q-bert, tripple threat, executioners, and especially dj babu!. Rap of today that focuses mainly on materialism, gangsta facade, & womanizing, is the reason why rap haters hate!. If the underground hip hop (that contains all four elements) were promoted and in the for front, I think the genre would get more respect!.
As far as rock recommendations I'm not too sure because I'm into death metal!. I hear that some kids called the jonas brothers are pretty good!.!.!.

I'm listening to old rap as I type! It has gotten horrible!. Rappers aren't even saying their own dirty words anymore, everyone's a robot! I think today's underground rap scene is decent but I can never seem to find any artists who combine good music with good lyrics!. I get real tired of that "hate the system" stuff after a while, same reason me and punk music don't mingle often!.
Your tastes are fine and not uncommon either!.
Maybe try out the raconteurs, the white stripes, the yeah yeah yeahs, metallica, coldplay, the offspring, more odd nirvana!.!.!.!.are your tastes getting louder or more just random!?
Good Luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I used to be into rap big time (probably own 250 or so rap albums from the late 80's to mid 90's)!. I think when it started to really get mainstream, the rap got worse (I know there are plenty of underground rappers that are good)!. The originality of it disapeared and I actually found the production aspect to get worse in general!.

Right now I mainly listen to Metal or other types of music but still listen to my old stuff like(mainly pre-95 material)

Ice Cube, Spice 1, Brotha lynch hung, Geto Boys, Souls of Mischief, Paris, Nas, Mobb Deep, Wu Tang, O!.C, 2pac, young lay, Goodie mob, The D!.O!.C, 8Ball & MJG!.!.!.!.!.

The only new artists I like are Atmosphere, Tech n9ne and maybe immortal technique

As far as recommendations for rock, I dont listen to too much, since i prefer metal but I listen to Poets of the Fall occasionally

I like some rap!. I like some rap rock bands like RATM, and some artists like Public Enemy, Eminem, Run DMC, Sir Mixalot!.!.!. I think hip-hop is exponentially worse today than it was 20 years ago!.!.!. Just compare "Fight the Power" to "Donk!."

I'd recommend Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Bob Dylan, The Doors, and Guns n' Roses to you!.!.!. Yeah, your taste is kinda limited, but pretty good!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I also like Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Dre, DMX, but i don't listen to them as much as i did at one time!. I've always been a metal head and always will be!. Check out Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, Seven Dust!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I like Eazy E, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Tupac!.
Today I like Kanye West, Outkast, Common, Nas, Three 6 Mafia and a few others!.

I think back then it was much more accepted because it was about real life today a lot of rap has gone mainstream!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hey man!.
Hip hop isn't my fortee really, and I haven't really dug too deep into it, but through some friends who either heard through the grape vine, or a friend who was more into it than I am I found out about some really great stuff!. Dr!. Octagon (and basically Kool Keith when he is putting proper effort into his projects), Mos Def, Talib Kweli, J-5, the Roots, the Danger Doom thing, some Wu Tang (like what I've heard)!. Stuff like that!. I also, though I feel like moving on after a couple tracks, get a good nostalgic feeling out of stuff like the Chronic!.

I don't know a whole lot about the state of things in hip hop these days!. I don't really listen to the radio and the stuff that people have shown me is mostly at least a couple years old!. I have a lot of respect for it though, I just never really dug too terribly deep though!.

This may be pretty out there, but give this a shot!.
