I was just listening to our local radio station and they played "A boy name!

Question: I was just listening to our local radio station and they played "A boy named Sue"!?
In this day and age, why can't they remove the bleep on the song!? And does anyone recall the original version of Charlie Daniels "Devil went down to Georgia" and how he had to go back in and re-record it in order to take out the word "son of a *****" out of it!. What happened to freedom of speech!? Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
To start with, "The Devil went Down to Georgia" has another version!. Instead of saying "son of a *****" he says "son of a gun"!. As an amateur radio operator, I know that you can't say certain things on the air!.
When Johnny Cash recorded "A boy named Sue", he was told "You can't say that" so they bleeped that part out!.
The FCC was more strict back then, you couldn't say things on c-b in the 1970's, like you can now!. It's still prohibated on amateur radio bands!. You risk losing your FCC amateur license!. I once operated c-b until the language got so bad, then I studied for my license!.
The FCC regulates what they can & can't air!.

I think it's ridiculous!. I've heard the original version of Charlie Daniels Band "Devil Went Down To Georgia" and it was late at night, so I guess they just can't play it during the day when they are more likely to have people who would have a fit about it listening!. I don't really see why they can't play it!. I've never heard a version of Johnny Cash's "Boy Named Sue" without the bleep in it though!. I don't know if they're is another version of it!. Like another poster wrote, why is Kid Rock allowed to say "smokin' funny things" and even though I don't like the song, in Taylor Swift's "Picture to Burn" they cut out the part that says "I'll tell mine your gay"!. What's wrong with that!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Tex, I think Freedom of Speech still exist, just only in certain markets!. I live in a very rural area, and we have a local radio station here that plays Charlie (more than I would have ever expected), given it is mostly in the two hour call in lunch "request", however they do play the original versions of his songs!. The ones that most of us knew from the get go, and it is REALLY irritating when they play the PC version!.

They even play David Allen Coe originals, except for If that Ain't Country, so I am not going to complain about the bleep, or I would never here DAC on the radio!

I agree with other posters, yes it is true, they will play a rapper, rock or whatever song with words worse than SOB in them!. And in country music they will play records of new artist who speak of drugs, underage sex, taking a baseball bat to someones truck, shooting people, say anything on radio!. Why can't Charlie say SOB!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

When those songs were released, it was not PROPER to use cuss words in music!. It was call respect!.!.!.!.!.!. It was also NOT proper to mention divorce, sex, the pill!. Loretta and Tammy changed those things!. But cuss words were still considered disrespectful!.

To put the words back in would mean remaking the songs which can not be done because of copyright process!. Maybe after the stars are dead, the songs will eventually be re recorded with all the words!.

It is like an old Gene Kelly movie!.!.!. They are NOT remade because his family refuses to sign the release!. It is the same with contry music of old!. YES some songs are remade, but they have permission!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Good point!! I think it's time to take that bleep out!.!.I mean if country music can play kid rock singing about "smokin funny things" why can't they play that!? Ever listen to any of todays pop music!? The B word is in every song!! And yes, the same with CDB!. They don't even censor it on tv anymore!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I understand how you feel!. But it's nice to know that I can usually feel safe listening to a country station without worrying about hearing profanity!. Country stations have higher standards than rap/hip-hop stations!.!.!.is that necessarily a bad thing!? I don't think so!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

well!.!.!.!.You know Tex some people get offended, throw a fit like a 2 year old til they get they're way!. It's stupid!. My little brother ( who was 5 at the time) did learn "SOB" From that song though LOL!.!.!.!.!.!.Ya just need to learn to change the station if ya don't like the song!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't understand the industry at all!. It'll bleep out something stupid but then allow all the rap and hip hop songs talking about murder, rape, drugs, and how wonderful it is to be a thug!. Who the hell comes up with these rules!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

It would cost too much to remove those bleeps!. It costs about $7,000 to add or remove a bleep!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

how do u do!.!.!.!.johnny cash Www@Enter-QA@Com
