The Doors were pretty exceptional, but they're not my favourite!. I also can't deny the power of Led Zeppelin, although I feel like I can't pick them as they weren't really my era!.
I grew up with the Stone Roses and Oasis so I guess I could pick them because everytime I hear them it reminds me of my youth and happy times!.
I also love Kings of Leon but I wouldn't consider them the best rock band ever since they haven't truly stood the test of time yet, even if they are my favourite band!.
I've given this question so much thought before and could never come up with a definite answer!.!.!.

A band that I think needs to be noticed more!. They have been doing it for 40 years, they made a the Flute into a rock instrument, All their records are different none of them sound the same!. It's a pretty much impossible question to answer,since it's not about what your favorite band would be,but about which one thinks is the best,an opinion which needs to be based on more than pure taste!.
In terms of originality,the influence they had on other bands,instrumental proficiency etc,I would say these artists would rank pretty high:

Creedence Clearwater Revival !.I appreciate the fact most people may not consider them a rock band but they were the closest I got to a rock band!. I'm a country fan but I have been known to enjoy a little Janis Joplin back in the day!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
The Beatles!. They put out ALOT of music in a short amount of time - much of it hitting #1 and still sells like hotcakes to this day!. Considering Paul McCartney is a billionaire I'd say they did something right!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
