I would have to say Debussy!. Even though playing the Impromptu would show great technique, playing the first Arabesque would show great musicianship AND technique!. The piece displays much more emotion than the Impromptu; if you were to shock the judges with the emotion you display in the first Arabesque, you get a thumbs up!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Stick with the Debussy!. I've judged a couple competitions for kids in the past and am sick and tired of the redundant classical era repetoire!. Yes, notes are important, but I'm interested in seeing success in interpreting the score!. Technique is indeed important, which should be the first thing you conquer in learning the piece, but interpreting it with the intentions of Debussy in mind, capturing that Gallic restraint, the general aesthetic of "Impressionist" French music (I regret using that term since Debussy himself rebuked it), and really making the piece "yours!."Www@Enter-QA@Com
go for the debussy =D
how do you play it btw!?
just a little curious on how it's usually played
cause i've heard/played it 2 ways
one very slow and clear
the other usually pretty fast, but the tempo changes a lot
the appreggios almost sound like rolls some of the time
and with a lot of pedal, with the sound very blurredWww@Enter-QA@Com
