Is metal a phase?!

Question: Is metal a phase!?
All these teens listening to it!.!.!.what do you think!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
In some ways, yes, in some, no!.

If you're just starting to listen to metal and you're a teen, you could stay committed, learn to play an instruments, and join a decent band!.

But the same thing happened to my brother!. He started listening to music like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Beatles, Stones, ect!.!.!.and got very interested!. Then forwarded and started listening to varieties of metal!. He knew which ones were popular and which ones to criticize!. If he liked an artist well enough, he would have every album by them and listen to them all!. All he ever did was music at the age of 12!.

At 12, he also picked up an instrument!. It was an old Fender Squier he found on someones driveway during garbage night!. He played that thing non-stop without an amp or a tuner!. Then, my parents realized what he was really into it and bought him a few things to go along with it!. (little amp, strap, tuner, a pedal or 2) and he was literally taking after Eddie Van Halen!. By 14 he could play every Cream song!.

But then he started realizing!. He was like "Its so hard to make a career and get famous off of playing metal anymore!. I barely have anyone to talk to about music, and I doubt i'll ever find someone that likes the exact same stuff I do thats my age!. And all I do is criticize everything that isn't metal!."

Now, he doesn't even play guitar!. He listens to a variety of music, but doesn't listen to metal anymore!.

But I never understood why he couldn't listen to metal and think of a different future!?

You see, metal can be a "phase", I guess its just the person and how committed they are!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Metal as a genre is as old as rock and it will last for forever!. What changes is the people who listen to it and the sub genres!. There are a lot of emos and posers at the moment who only listen to the metal that kerrang and mtv tells them, they wont be listening to it in three years!. also the sub-genre that they listen to "hardcore" or whatever it is called wont be around in 5 years as it is only a fasion!. But there are sometypes of metal that will be around for as long as metal is around, trash metal was only really made in the 80s but is still popular, black sabbath has been around since the 60s and metal is still huge in europe!.

Teens (in general) just listen to what is popular at the time and what peer pressure tells them to!. There are a lot of people, like your brother , who will only listen to it for a while but there are also a lot of people who will continue listening to it!. also what teens listen to does not decide what is going to last, look at pop it will never end and i don't know any adults who care who is in the top 40!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Metal music isn't a phase!.
Death, thrash, melodic death metal, symphonic, black, heavy, Grunge, Power !. !.some various sub genres within metal music
It's a genre of music that you like listening to, whether it be the guitar riffs, solos, drumming, vocal effects like growling screaming whatever!.
Generally people in society frown upon it thinking it's supposedly "satanic" when there are metal music bands out there that just like to incorprate elements of darkness, life, death, pain, suffering, struggle, war, god, hell into their lyrics which shouldn't be taken literally as most of it is interpreated as metaphorical language or symbolism !. !.

Any music genre that attaches "fashion, merchandise, materialism, scene kids, stereotypes" like the "emo scene" is a sure type of "phase" or "fad" to coin the terms!.

Music shouldn't attach any stereotypes or labels to it, it should be something you like and listen to with dedication and passion ! Music shouldn't define or restrict your entire being or lifestyle for that matter!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Actually I don't know any teens who listen to Metal (except me and a few others)!. Metal is stereotyped and hated by most people, and all of the metal fans REALLY like it because of that (you have to really like it if you agree to be stereotyped because of it)!. I don't think there are many mild metal fans!. It's not a phase, it's an underground culture that isn't going away any time soon!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

As a teenager I can explain, Metal is our way of getting away from everything that hurts us, the music allows us to scream and hate without having to do it, but just to listen, in correct terms, usually metal is a sign that a teen is hurt, or going through a painfull time, like when my Uncle died of drugs, I wanted to scream, and kill, and hate!. and the metal I listened to talked about that, so it brought me back down, listening to metal is like a high for teens with a problem in there life, it just helps us calm down and relate!. Always a pleasure to help (Cr!M^)Www@Enter-QA@Com

For some people, it is a "phase!." When i was a teen (a really long time ago) all I did was listen to metal music, but now that I am older, I enjoy a wide variety of music, however I still like a lot of metal music! As an extreme example of it being a "phase": my best friend's brother was a total metalhead in high school, but now he is like totally religious!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Metal will never die!. I listened to it as a teen and still enjoy it today!. I'm probably older than your father!.

"Heavy Metal Thunder" was first used in 1968 by Steppenwolf in "Born To Be Wild", because songwriter John Kay liked the author William Burroughs, who had used it in one of his books!.

I think metal has saved the lives of many teens who found something to identify with!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes and no, depending on your scope of time!.!.!. Metal has already been around too long to be a fad, though!. It may turn out to be a phase in the grand scheme of time if it evolves enough to be renamed, I guess!.

Some people didn't like the "new" music when Mozart played it, yet it's still around, and "Classical" now!. People treated early Jazz, then Rock and Roll, then, the Beetles, and so on the same way!.

A lot of the early Heavy Metal is now lumped in with Classic Rock and acceptable for advertising, in stores, et cetera!. A lot of The Who & (again) The Beetles' music had many of the same elements, distorted guitars, pounding drums & screaming vocals, too!. So, who and what the earliest metal-ish music was is a point that is open to debate, regardless of "expert" declarations or when the term was coined!.

Metal will keep evolving, as all music does!. I'd bet that most of the teens listening to it now will still like it and only some of what it evolves to in 20 or more years!. They'll see it just as my peers/age group (who grew up with Metal) in & outside of the music scene do now!.
(I like a lot of it, but there's commonly too much whining and sympathy-seeking lyrics now for my tastes!.)

EDIT: Sarah B - Didn't Deep Purple coin the phrase in "Highway Star" ("!.!.!.heavy metal thunder!.!.!.")!? I still don't think they were the first of the sound, though, so many others came before them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ah yes, my father went through the 'metal phase' during the 80's where he said his father told him that he'll grow out of it, of course he didn't believe him!. And now my father is saying the exact same thing to me, which is crap because I'm not going to stop listening to metal!.

In answer to your question I think it can be a phase for some people!. Then other people who genuinely love the music will keep listening to it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

not really no!. alot of people that i know that listen to metal have been fans for most of there lives!. If any form of music should be a phase it should be today's hip hop!. god it is aweful, I hope it dies like disco did!. the same with screamo bands that "Try" to be metal!. they are a phase but true metal is not!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I can't even begin to explain how retarded this statement is!.!.!.metal!.!.!.a phase!.!.!.huh!.!.!.

Dude, metal owns any music out there!.!.!.it will never die!.!.!.I've been a metalhead ever since I was like 12!. I LOVE all kinds of music and have about as diverse musical taste as one can have, but METAL will always be king to meWww@Enter-QA@Com

Yes - and you, like they, don't have a clue what 'metal' is! Although they loathe the term, Deep Purple are said to be the real founders of metal - heavy metal to be precise - back in the '60s! How can a genre be a 'phase' when it's endured for 40 years!?!Www@Enter-QA@Com

umm, well anything can be a phase for anyone but usually if metal is just a phase for someone the only learn or get into "the basics" or newer stuff or things like linkin park :/
