Few questions about buying and shipping cello/violin?!

Question: Few questions about buying and shipping cello/violin!?
I have both a violin and a cello in the east coast, that has been untouched for years, and probably requires some work!. I'm currently on the west coast!.!.!. How much would it cost to ship them both or just the cello!?

I'm currently thinking maybe I should just take the violin with me on the plane when I go there next (thanksgiving), and as for cello!.!.!. maybe I'll just try looking for a new one here!? How much are they!? How does one go about buying a cello anyway!? I'd be looking for a cheap one, but don't want one of those off-the-shelf type cellos where they sound like complete crap!. I'd like to be able to play it (hear it) before buying it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, it cost me over 100 to ship mine from Florida to North Carolina!. For the violin I would just take it on with you!. The cello you could check but thats so dangerous!. I normally drive it or buy a seat for it (yes, I'm devoted)!. If you really like the cello you have, I would ship it or take it with you!. If you don't, then find a luthier (violin specialist) and speak to him about purchasing!. Give yourself a budget as well that will include all the necessities (good strings, rosin, soft cloths, rockstop if you need it (i just sharpen my endpin to a killer point!), mute, wolf eliminator, metronome/tuner, case) A decent cello will be about $1,000 and all the accessories can run about $300 bucks not including the case!. You can get cheaper ones, but its more likely $400 bucks for a solid one!.

I have nightmare stories about checking my cello under the plane!. I bubble wrapepd her, loosened the strings and then they proceeded to lose her in Georgia!. I just pay for the ticket now!. I might just ship it if I was you!. I would ask the luthier how to pack it properly because I'm actually not sure!. I guessed with mine!. Not the best idea! But don't put it under the plane!. They treat everything like crap!. Even the professionals $20000 instruments!.

But for buying a new instrument, if thats what you decide, go to a luthier not a general music store!. You want a professional handling your instrument!. If you want pricing, just email me!.
