What was the first rap song and was it good?!
Question: What was the first rap song and was it good!?
Whats the name and who wrote it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Answers:
The first widely recognized rap song is "Rappers Delight" by Sugarhill Gang!. Yes it is good!.
Rap is a descendent of a Jamaican technique called "toasting"!.!.!.that began when they would take Jamaican Sound Systems (aka vans with speakers and stuff in the back) through the towns and villages and play the music for people - this is how they sold records!. Over the tracks, the people would speak over the tracks with praise or comments about dancers or people passing by, this was called "toasting!." I believe DJ U Roy was big for this!.!.being a "toaster" and looping rhythmic tracks!.
Clive Campbell was the most notable DJ that immigrated from Jamaica to NYC!.!.!.since in the early 1970's, there was a HUGE Jamaican immigration to the South Bronx and Boston!. DJ Kool Herc started hosting dance parties at a community center, serving as a DJ - he would "toast" over some of the music!. This also led straight into hip-hop!.
There are also elements of "toasting" in James Brown music as well as with Parliament Funkadelic!.!.!.!.and there was a tremendous amount of sound combinations between things like The Incredible Bongo Band, who shares a song with the Sugarhill Gang - "Apache"!.!.!.!.
But Rap is a direct descendent of Jamaican "toasting" - and "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang - released in 1979 and based on a disco track is most recognized as being the first, though some people will argue that "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" by The Fatback Band is the first!.
The important thing to understand, though, is that Rap didn't just appear out of nowhere, it was a development and a combination of several different musical trends in its infancy!.
Hope that helps!. :)Www@Enter-QA@Com
