Why isn't Don McLean's "American Pie" considered one of the al!

Question: I find myself pulling out that album all the time It's perfect.

Answers: I find myself pulling out that album all the time It's perfect.

One of the first 331/3 albums I bought...as I recall when it came out we all did regard American Pie as a masterpiece--sadly most just bought the 45 and never listened to the rest of the gold on the album "Vincent" made a brief appearance on the radio but never really caught on that much..it is a work of art in itself. "The Grave" is a masterful work as well..the mournful lyrics are well accompanied by the dirge McClean wrote. "Empty Chairs" cannot be listened to without feeling the agonizing lonliness and pain of a broken relationship. The question that remains..is McClean a better poet or musician? As much as I admire his music I think I would choose poet.

the songs are just soo catchy and the first time you hear it, you become addicitive.

for the same reason the dead's american beauty isn't.

Shanananana

It should be

it is.

i LOVE that song!!!!!!!

I think the song that made Don famous is probably the same reason why the album is really only known for 2 songs. ("Vincent")

Because the music journalists who write these lists of 100 "essential" albums are usually jumped-up sleazeballs, who relate to other jumped-up sleazeballs. Don McLean is a performer of immense talent and professionalism and undisputed personal integrity.
When I was a teenager it used to be one of my favourite albums. They played "Winterwood" on the radio the other month, and it set me to thinking about getting another copy.

Good question. I think it's probably the most popular song of all time, though. Talk about Americana....

Because it's nothing compared to The Beatles, Pink Floyd etc. :p
