Is There a Reason (or Story) behind RUSH choosing their Name?!

Question: .
To be honest - I don't know. As excellent as they were from that 1st album - I doubt that they were Junkies...

Maybe they meant - "Wow, Man... What a RUSH"?

Does anyone know if there is a real story behind there name?
----OR----
Do you have your own "fantasy", that you'd like to sure? (aaout Rush, that is) :)

It was Rutsey's older brother who suggested the name Rush immediately before the band's first gig at The Coff-In, a local coffee shop in the basement of an old Anglican church. This was a play on words alluding to the frantic scrambling of the band members as they tried to come up with a title.
(Rutsey was the original drummer)

You have great taste in music.

I believe you got it right, as in, "Wow, Man... What a RUSH!!!"

But indulge me with a little license, as I make something up.

There's like, some guy at the local soda shop who is gonna let Alex, Geddy, and their unnamed drummer friend play Cream and Blue Cheer covers in the corner for free Root Beer floats. Well, the manager wants to know that this is a real band, not just some high school kids plunking around on their instruments, getting a free rehearsal space in the corner... So the guy says "Hey guys, it's a 'go' but I gotta have a name. Quick! I gotta tell him something, eh! My manager's on the phone! And he's in a... RUSH..."

And now you know... the rest of the story!

I really have to wonder WHY someone would give this answer 2 thumbs down... Malicious?

They were all fans of Ian Rush!

Looks like Tom's got the real story. I'm going to just pass on the myth that used to float around when I was in high school. People used to claim they were named after those poppers (isobutyl nitrite) that had a brand name of Rush. They used to sell those things in head shops and record stores. But I'm pretty sure Rush predates all that anyway.

I wonder if anyone back then ever thought of naming their band Locker Room (that was another popular stimulant brand)...
