I'm looking to buy an album by Common--is The Best of Common a good represen!

Question: i would go for BE (him now) or Resurrection (him then). "Best of" albums are never really that good, usually just what the company released from the album that they thought would be hits. The artist (nor the fans) pick what was the artists "best" work.

Probably, but Resurrection is his best album.

It probably is I don't listen to common

If you're taling about Thisisme Then, it's a good compilation of his earlier work. If you're familiar with a lot of his newer work and just want a little taste of what he was like in the mid 90's without having to buy all three of his albums from that period, then it would be a good purchase. If you don't have any of his albums, and want something that spans his entire career, you're out of luck. IMO, Like Water for Chocolate is his best album.

cosign hip hop rent a cop. I'd buy both Be and Ressurection instead of a greatest hits. Be is one of those albums that you really need to hear in its entirety to fully appreciate it.

NO!! That album is EARLY Common Sense... so, if you're looking for an OVERALL representation, you won't get it from that album. Its good for all the early stuff, but its not a COMPLETE representation.

"Like Water for Chocolate" is still Common at his best , in my personal opinion... followed closely by "Be".... so, you're missing the 2 best Common albums.
