If you have a jazz bass guitar do you need an amp?!
Question: if you mean a Fender Jazz Bass, which is a model of Bass made by the Fender company, it is still an electric instrument, meaning it is solid and designed to be used with an amplifier. Acoustic guitars and basses are hollow so they are loud without amplifiers.
In jazz music often a large stand up acoustic bass is used which doesnt need an amplifier, but most all bass guitars are made to be plugged in. You still can hear it well enough to practice without plugging in a bass guitar though, it wont be loud enough to hear from more than a few feet away though
