Question: white people didn't grow up in the marcy projects or anything like that so they don't really know what the thug life is like. why do they pretend that they know it and they listen to hip hop all the time?

Music is suppossed to reach the masses...that is some real ignorant stuff for you to say...so what if they like it, do they have to go thru tough times to "understand its harshenss"??????

Why do you assume that just because I'm white I didn't grow up in the projects? UP YOURS

I grew up poor as f*ck. I didn't live in marcy but I lived in a sh!tty neighborhood, jam packed with meth labs and crackheads. One of my good friends got shot point blank in the chest with a shotgun over drug money and I live in Utah. I know what it's like to have it rough, you don't have to be black for that.

I forgot to read the requirements before I started listening "You must have lived the thug life to enjoy the music".

hmmmmm.....Why do black people, after fighting for years to abolish segregation, want an Afrocentric school in Toronto, Canada?

Because people are never happy no matter what colour they are! The grass is always greener......

Besides you don't have to be a specific colour like certian things....why not ask why white people like chinese food?

Black People Ain't The Only One's That Were Brought Up In The Ghetto & It's Up To Them What Music They Want To Listen To, It's Not A Law Or Anything For It To Be Just Black People To Listen To RHH Music :)

They don't pretend that they know it, they like hip hop because they think it's cool same as some black people listen to country music, rock and so on....It shouldnt bother you that they "pretend" to know what the thug life is like because it shows that they are interested in it, and who said a kind of music only pertain to one group of people you might be the creator but everybody can listen to it and like it or try to sing it too. They dont necessarily need to be the same race as the one(s) who created it. Im black and I like Kelly Clarkson, Linkin Park, Pink etc...Same as a white folk can like Diddy, Soulja Boy, R. Kelly, 50 Cent etc...I dont really see the drama in that.

you don't have to grow up in the projects to like hip hop. i didn't grow up in the projects. (even though i'm not white either)

not all black people are from the projects just like not all white people are from the suburbs. who are you to judge what music white people should be listening to? since when has it been required to be a certain way in order to like a certain type of music?

you might get far in life if you can stop being prejudice!

Well some songs have a message. Shoot, preppy white people only listen to garbage like Soulja Boy or Hurricane Chris. Not all of them, some of them.

How about this. Why not?

How about this. None of "our generation" was alive during the times of slavery, so none of "our generation" knows exactly what the f...ed up mentality was for enslaving people of ANY race other than profits and getting free work out of people.

But remember, discrimination comes in all types of cultures and historic times. Jews, African Americans, Native Americans, Spanish, Italians, Arabs, whatever. Every culture has a history.

But, if hip-hop is a way of unifying all races and genders and cultures, is there still a problem with it? I think not!

Could you imagine if white people stopped buying "your" music. Rappers would be broke. Get used to it ****** your in America, Go to Africa if you don't like it.

What does growing up in the projects have to do with liking good music? I grew up in the country with that and head bangers and I HATE country & heavy metal music. Been into RHH & R&B my whole life.

damn the ignorance is running rampant in the RHH section today...Music is a universal language...u don't have to be a certain raceto listen to a certain type of music...get it thru ur head and deal with it...

For the same reasons that black people like classical music. i grew in the inner city of san francisco and went to a ghetto *** high school but I played the violin for nine years and i like classical music as well as DJ Quik, At The Drive In and Nas. Sometimes people like to listen to stuff other than something that their peers/parents listen to. It may not reflect where they are from but if its inspirational or if it makes you shake your ***, more power to you.
