What happened to real country music, what is this pop country crap?!

Question: To me, it all ended in 1993 with mark chesnut. I love all the old country and refuse to listen to the radio except on weekends when the play TX country and classic solid gold country. I'm from TX and luckily live in TX where atleast there is TX country to listen to which is completely different from that crap in mainstream, I feel bad for kids these days that unfortunatly have to grow up thinking that country music is toby keith and and trace adkins and refuse to listen to it. I'm 25 years old and i'm not an old man, I listen to conway, geroge jones, keith witley, vern gosdin, jerry jeff walker, randy rogers and stoney larue and I listen to all ranges of country music and I just hate to see kids growing up missing out on real story tellers and artists that actually lived their songs.

It has turned into the Taylor Swift Fan club (Bubble gum Country)!!!
I used to hang here alot, but it is so hard to find Q's about Country music here, that I started my own little country music site (where we can talk about ANYTHING and not get Violations every time you turn around!!!

ya know, i aint as old as sum of u that responded (im 20) but i agree
country music has kinda got mixed with the teeny bop kinda stuff and there are a few i like such as rascal flats ( i love em) but not too many
i grew up listenin to conway twitty, george jones (the possum), george strait, keith witley (thanks to my grandma) and alotta other ones that i absolutely looooove
and u dont hear anything like them anymore, sad really
but o well no matter wat comes along ill continue to listen to the classics!!

but i also like alotta music, different genres....classic rock, rap, and country, i just prefer the classic country (real country)

i was drunk the day my momma got outta prison...
i looooove this song
my fave!!

...it is about time someone asked a real country music question, rascal flatts, dumb & rich, faith & tim, all claiming to be country and to me they all sound pop...

I'm from Texas also, and I believe you have answered your question, that is what it is crap

You are 100% right on. Thank God for Texas/Red Dirt Music! Everything coming out of Nashville is crap!

Amen brother! I like the classics also!

I asked a similar question recently - I've stopped watching CMT now because it's all heavy rock not country. The only ones that haven't changed are Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, George Strait and the women singers just sound like pop ballads. I'm glad you asked this question.!!!

Ok Ok OK whoa whoa whoa... I happen to love country .... I think the reason that country has such a bad rap is that too much of the old stuff (if you really know it than you know) is quite depressing. I love new age country for a few reasons, It sings about good things that actually make you feel good, not about homes being broken up and wives cheating and Im not knocking it however it can be quite the downer. The new age stuff is up lifting and weather you like it or not there really is alot of talent out there... In your own words everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is mine, This music sings about the type of life I lead and am going to lead one day(no babies yet), just happy, feeling good, taking care of my family and babies, loving my man, treating people right with respect and coming through for your friends Please tell me what is soooo terrible about that!!! I think it is all positive happy things that SHOULD make you feel good!!! =) Stop hating just cause things are changing!!!!! =)

I agree with you also, real country ended in the early 90's. I do like a FEW songs of the newer generation, but not very many. The only thing I know about "new" country is what I see on Y/A. I know more about Carrie Whatsherface, Taylor Whatshername, and Rascall Faults, than I ever care to know. I don't own any of their albums, nor will I. I will probably be getting a "violation" from Y/A for being a smart alec and answering most of the CU,TS, and RF songs with some sort of comment about drinking like when they ask "what is TS's best song?", I answer it with something like "ten rounds with jose' cuervo" or jeeez..another shot" I got that from a question a while back that had asked how drunk would you be right now if you had to do a shot everytime a question about them came up, and if I ever actually did that, I would need a DD to get me from my chair to my bed.

i agree

I agree!! I gave up on mainstream country years ago after being turned on to John Prine. The county music today is all a bunch of cheesy bubble gum junk. Ok some is catchy and cutsie, but I'd probably get addicted to a soap opera too, if I watched it enough times......doesn't mean it's quality.
Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Merle Haggard, and the like, are still putting out some good stuff, but you won't hear them on the radio. At least not in cleveland where I live. Thank God for satelite radio and mp3 players. New technology = better access to REAL music. Peace!
