For god's sake, please don't ever listen to nickleback. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, TV on the Radio, Clap your hands say yeah, The Faint, The Knife, The Decemberists, The Rapture, VHS or Beta, Scissors Sisters. Those are some pretty good bands closer to the flaming lips or radiohead side, although some are more rocky or upbeat.
