It's the "Bakersfield Sound"
Buck and Merle get the most credit for it, but there was also Wynn Stewart, Tommy Collins (who Buck played lead guitar for), Johnny Bush, and Doyle Holley (If I forgot anyone, I'm sorry, but I don't google)!!!

As always I'm late,However Bakersfield sound.Had to answer my violation notices

Actually Lisa it was Wynn Stewart and Tommy Collins that started the Bakersfield sound. Merle was still in prison at that time and although when he got out he as well as Buck did their part. When Merle was asked who started it he will tell you Tommy Collins, Wynn Stewart and that he did his best to keep it going. Merle first toured with Buck but that was after he played bass guitar for Wynn Stewart. Wynn was kind enough to give Merle the song "Sing A Sad Song" which was all Merle needed to get going.

It was known as the Bakersfield sound
