Buy or Sell: Yo! MTV raps > Rap city?!

Question: I NEVER HAD CABLE (NOT EVEN ILLEGAL CABLE)
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER TO WATCH THOSE SHOWS.
IM FROM THE SLUMS HOMIE.
NOW THINGS ARE DIFFERENT.
BUT SOMETIMES I LIKE TO WATCH OLD CLIPS OF THOSE SHOWS ON THE INTERNET.
IT DEPENDS ON THE ARTIST.

muchmusic rapcity backin the day

didnt get mtv in canada

"Yo! MTV Raps" has to win, especially if you compare it to Rap City of today. Yo! was instrumental in helping to make hip hop the worldwide phenomenon that it is today. I mean, back in the day, if you were an up and coming emcee or crew, you knew you had made it if you made it on either "Yo! MTV Raps" or "The Arsenio Hall Show."

That being said, "Rap City" definitely had its place back in the day. It did a better job of showcasing underground and up and coming artists. It was also cool when Joe Clair and Big Lez hosted it because they would actually travel to the hometowns of many of the rappers, something Yo! didn't do quite as often. With "Rap City" I really also enjoyed their Old School Wednesdays when they would focus on the videos of many of the pioneers of hip hop.

mtv
