How come simple music can be so great?!

Simple music is what gets our heart going most. Banging out simple versions of three basic chords is what makes us feel the most complete. Regular melodic scales are the least dissonant. It is what we as music buying public like the best. That is why the rules were made hundreds of years ago, because it is what our culture most likes to hear.
The most complex Jazz musician, the simplest two chord folk player, sound like crap if they have no heart, sound great if they do have it. Heart is what music should be all about. It may be simpler to put heart into simple music.
Another thought is, maybe the players more interested in putting heart into music, tend to be less concerned about complexity. But I still go mainly with: simple music stays closer to the basic rules of harmony, which is what the American culture most wants to hear the most often.

Because it's all about the right composition... you put a few simple instruments composed wisely, get a good singer with smart lyrics.... and it's a good/great song
all music is really great . I love how just one simple song can bring back memories you don't just remember it actually takes you back, or even to the future I have a 2 year old she's my first born and I heard this song on the radio called "stealing cinderella" and it brought tear to my eyes thinking of her wedding day and what am I going to do when that day comes,I better prepare myself now,just with that song I went forward 18or 20 years (or more)for about 2 or 3 min music amazes me
because we have fifty years of music behind us, and it's so hard to create something original anymore. too many bands try too hard and end up making something overly complicated in an effort to be different. simple music is refreshing.
