Has a concert ever sold out BEFORE it went on sale to the general public?!

Question: Okay, I'm looking at these concert tickets at ticketmaster.com. It's the pre-sale (for those who belong to the fan club) and it has the option of buying tickets but adding $40 for the fan club membership. I looked and saw what seats I would be able to get if I had the membership and the best I could get would be in section 400 (it goes up to section 900).

Do they reserve some quality seats for the general public? Or do the fan club members get them all? How does this work exactly?

I go to a lot of concerts and have found myself having a hard time getting good tickets to some concerts. As soon as tickets went on sale through ticketmaster I would log on and as usual, tickets would be sold out. I never understand this and tried having a lady at ticketmaster explain it to me, but apparently it was a secret.

On another occasion I tried getting tickets to another show and tickets went from being sold out on the day the tickets went onsale, to me getting 5th row the night BEFORE the show. This aggrivated me to no end so I called ticketmaster yet again and got some younger guy, so I struck up a non ticket related conversation to break the ice then asked what the deal was with purchasing tickets and I FINALLY got the answer. For whatever the reason, ticketmaster doesn't like to admit that for large acts they withold a certain amount of high quality tickets to give everyone a fair shot. If all the tickets went at once a large majority of them would go to scalpers (which they do still anyway) so this way it's more left up to luck. The key is keep checking back because they randomly release tickets at all different points until the actual night of the show.

Also, no,it is not possible to sell out an entire venue through presale tickets because they set aside certain tickets specifically dedicated to this. (They aren't usually the greatst seats either.) The first 5 rows or so are always handed to radio stations for contest use. They are reserved before hand and are not available to the public. Once the show gets closer, there are occasions where a radio show gives the tickets back to ticketmaster and from there, they go back up on sale to the public.

Ever since I talked to that guy from ticketmaster, I have always got decent seats to all my shows. The furthest back I ever had to sit was 11th row..not too shabby.

My advice is to frequent the ticketmaster site often, but not too often because ticketmaster has this fraud protection software which locks you out of the website for about 24 hours once you have exceeded the amount of times allowed to enter their site. Frustrating... I know.

Good Luck! A couple friends of mine seen Tom Petty last year and had a great time.

Most definitely, if the band is popular and the tickets are being sold online, you probably will not get a chance to buy them at a stand.

Good luck on your Hannah Montana purchase

yah. Hannah Montana. they sell out online in just a few seconds.
