Are there any current bands that sound like Metallica or Megadeth?!

Question: Metallica and Megadeth have a very distinct sound on the early albums (basically, all of Dave Mustaine's songs for both bands). You're not going to find anything EXACTLY like it, but I highly, strongly and enthusiastically recommend that you pick up the entire back catalogue for Testament, who also have a new album coming out April 29.

You can also try "Refuge Denied" and "Into the Mirror Black" from Sanctuary. If you like those, get the entire Nevermore catalogue, who feature the singer and bassist from Sanctuary. Again, another strong recommendation.

From there I would recommend Flotsam & Jetsam "Doomsday for the Deceiver" and "No Place For Disgrace." It's older stuff, but if you're looking for something closer to Megadeth and early Metallica, Flots will deliver.

While Anthrax are thrash as well, the album I would recommend from them is "Persistence of Time." It's got a lot of the longer songs like Metallica used to do.

Chris Poland, who was the guitarist on Megadeth's first two discs, put out an instrumental album "Return to Metalopolis" that is very close to early Megadeth.

Powerman 5000

None.

I often mistake metallica for godsmack nowadays cause yeah, metallica is totally soft now.

As for Megadeth... I don't know anyone else that sounds like them?

the band that sounds most like those bands ESPECIALLY metallica is trivium, on the album ascendancy they did a pretty good cover of the song master of puppets. and on their new album the crusade. you can totally tell that metallica had a HUGE influence when they were writing that album. also bullet for my valentine is releasing a new album and they said they are basing it off of 80's metal especially metallica

trivium. they sound exactly like old metallica

Not really.
There's bands that have heavy influences, and have similar sounds in parts... but the older bands have a different way of doing things.

Bands like Trivium and Sanctity have their own sounds...and if you're going to put them up against an older band, choose Megadeth for christ sake..

Bullet For my Valentine has their style to a certain point.

Nope!! There is only ONE Megadeth and ONE Metallica!!
There might be bands that sound like them....but none come close!!

I also recommend you pick up some Exodus, Slayer, Dark Angel, Death Angel, The Haunted, Fueled by Fire, Municipal Waste (new band sounds exactly like vintage thrash).
Do a Google search for Thrash Metal and see what you like.
