I'm not sure what it would be like. I,m wondering if the ones that have the last say so about what kind of music goes out onto the airwaves wouldn't try and run them out of town and into retirement homes. I mean look what they have done to the ones that are still alive. When was the last time you heard or seen George Jones on the CMA's without having some idiot tell him he could only sing half of his song? Maybe it's better that they are not around anymore.. I feel that with the way things are today they would have changed their style of music to appease the country music fans of today. So we should just be glad that we got to live in the time these greats were the Giants of country music and even though these new kids know nothing about real music. we should let them have their turn. God Bless Classic Country.

I believe that Johnny Horton would have been put out to pasture too, (a shame), but there is no room for classic stars on the "new" radio (they barely have time, for the "NEW" classic stars like, Strait, Jackson, Travis and Loveless)

the Caveman

wow
??

I think if you look at the artists that have had multiple generational artists: Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, are some that quickly come to mind. You will see they have often changed their music for the time.

I remember going to a taping for a show that was going to be hosted by Kenny, and at it he "debuted" a song called Planet Texas, I can remember really liking the song. Though to me at the time it had a bit of a "techno" feel to it in that it had laser like sounds at times in the song. I was like that will not make it with a lot of country fans.

It was played once or twice on my radio, but disappeared quickly. But it made me realize something.

The industry is almot driven by this need to make things the same.... And take away some of what makes music unique. And that is not just country music.

George Jones has a song out there called "Whos Gonna Fill Their Shoes" recorded back in early 80s. He said it even then that some of our true heros would not be given the time of day in the current industry.

We would have never had Hank Williams Sr, in this modern era... And we probably never would have had Hank Jr.

But if you listen there are artists out there today that are very true to the roots of country. And where it should be again.

But music is very much cyclic and currently it is back to the pop stuff that I dont care for much. Thankfully I have a lot of CDs, and a country station that is not afraid to play Tex Ritter followed by Statler Brothers and then play Keith Urban... or Garth.

I'M BOWING DOWN TO TEX...ENUFF SAID!

Unfortuantely I think what has happened to the real country music would have happened anyway because most of it has to do with the bigwigs in Nashville that pass over the legends no matter how good their material is or whomever it is that recorded it. I agree that it is sad but we here have an opportunity to not let these legends vanish from the public view. We do owe them that much and Nashville owes them even more but they don't seem willing to give these legends their just rewards. I also echo Tex's remarks. Great answer Tex. This is a great question by the way.

George Jones said it best in his song "Who's going to feel thier shoes"

Eh... it's cyclical. Country becomes "cool" for awhile, and then it becomes crap for awhile, then you get a neo-traditionalist movement, and it becomes good and not as cool for awhile. It was cool in the late 90s and now we're in the crap phase again, IMHO.

I don't think that it would matter not one bit HATENU...
Hell look at how they are treating THE POSSUM, THE HAG, THE RED HEADED STRANGER..ETC..and they are ALIVE AND KICKING RIGHT IN THEIR FACES!!!

Slime balls!

You know the answers have it. They've pretty much said what's my way of thinkin'. and the whole thing's a crying shame, things being the way they are now.
It would be nice if the oldies were still here, but in a way its good that they didn't have to see it. and too it's good that we didn't have to watch them give over to the powers that be, 'cause even they would have probably felt the need to change.
and none of us would have wanted to see that happen.
We all have our wonderful memories of those late great people, so let's atleast be thankful for that...
