More influential to music? Pink Floyd or The Rolling Stones?!

Question: Pink Floyd, they did things in the studio that nobody thought was possible.

The Rolling Stones are great, but to me, they seem to be followers instead of leaders. When the Beatles first used the sitar, the Stones put it on their next single Street Fighting Man. The Beatles did Sgt Pepper, the Stones did Their Satanic Majesties Request. After Hey Jude, Jagger was quoted as saying he would like to have a song with a big finish, so they did You Can't Always Get What You Want. The Beatles did the White Album, Stones did Exile.

I am not running the Stones down by no means, but it just seems to me Floyd was much more innovative (production, sounds, lyrics, song lengths etc.)

Rolling Stones. They made at least fifty studio albums! Not only have they influenced later bands, but also contemporaries (such as the Beatles). In fact, the Stones probably are the most influential band next to the Beatles.

The Rolling Stones, but I do love Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd

I feel Pink Floyd. They used and made sound into music and expanded your horizon of what rock music could be.

The Stones on the other hand are just the quintessential Rock n Roll band.

The Stones but only by a hair. They are both VERY influential bands. I just think that the Stones appealed to a little bit of a wider audience than Floyd.

The Stones influentual? HA yeah right. Who exactly did they influence? I sure can't think of anyone...

Pink Floyd created a who new idea of music. They were progressive and experimental, and they have a long list of influenced artists including Radiohead, David Bowie, Tool, Dream Theater, and The Mars Volta, among many many others.

Did the stones create anything as original and legendary as Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall? I don't think so.

The Rolling Stones are waaaaaaaayyy overrated.

The Pink Stones!

Woaah. Pink Floyd no questions asked. The smart people above me have written all the things i would have. I'm only commenting to back them up. (I gave you guys a thumb up each ;) )

Dark Side of The Moon-Pink Floyd need I say more??
Top selling album even today, innovative, great rock and roll.

Gotta go w/ PF overall, though someone here hit on a great point- their influence was more subtle; In-studio influence.

Though I've seen more bands actually list the Stones as an influence, I suspect that far more have been influenced by PF without even knowing it.

I think Dark Side was ahead of its time sound-wise. Still sounds amazing today.

Pink Floyd influenced music in a different way to the Rolling Stones. Pink Floyd experimented more whilst the Rolling Stones were the influence of development for modern rock bands. Therefore I think it would the Rolling Stones, despite the fact that like Pink Floyd more.

To me, defining "influential" means more people tried to copy your sound or style than others. Using that definition, I'll go with the Stones, because you can hear their sound much more across the board than Floyd's.
