Whats the difference between thrash metal and speed metal?!

Whats the difference between thrash metal and speed metal?
I was asked this today and didn't really have an answer. Thash is bands like Slayer and Megadeth. I don't really use the term "speed metal" often but i know its a genre. Just wanted your input. Additional Details

If you are going to offer that for an answer, don't say things like 'case closed'. Most of the time the two get used for the same bands, there never was a fine line of speed "or" thrash. In general thrash seems to take a little more grittiness and distortion from punk then speed which tends toward a cleaner sound. Megadeth is more speed metal, Slayer is more thrash. Thrash is heavier and not as fast, speed is pretty heavy and very fast. its called "wikipedia" metal is just like not as fast as SPEED metal For the sake of argument. Cause I know this will be a HUGE one.
Speed Metal is a little faster and more "metal" than thrash. Leaning more towards death or black metal. Thrsh still holds a slight punk element without going "too heavy".
Now comes the barrage of "no you're wrong" "I'm 14 and I know what metal really is" responses Thrash can be fast, but has talented guitar work, can be heavy, fast, slow, etc. speed metal is fast that style of music I think died out year ago. or they just put under another genre ok megadeth is not speed metal
Megadeth is 100% thrash

case closed Correction: Dragonforce is power metal, AKA, dork metal. I think thrash metal is a form of speed metal, except more distorted and heavier than speed metal in general.
