How do I write music to go with lyrics? PLEASE READ!?!
Question:
How do I write music to go with lyrics? PLEASE READ!?
Do musicians write lyrics with a tune in mind? Or do they write the lyrics then play around on a guitar or whatever to find the music? Or do they find the tune, then write the lyrics?
Ive written a poem that I want to make into a song. I play guitar, but only really simple chords- I have only been playing for a little while.
All musicians start somewhere right? I wana make this song, and see what its like to create music.
Please help.
Answers:
Every musician does it differently, I like to write music and lyrics together, but lately I've been writing lyrics without my guitar and putting them to music later. I think that's probably the most common way, but by no means the only way, just look at some of the answers here.
The way I do it is play a couple of chords, and once I find some that I like, I start singing the words over those chords. Sometimes the melody doesn't sound like I want, and I go back and change it or change the chords. I keep going back and forth until I get something I like. Sometimes I get finished, then listen to it for a few days then change it again.
If you're not sure which chords to try, try these:
G, C, D, Em. Start with the G then play the others in an order you like. These aren't the only chords of course, but they should be familiar to even a beginner, and they all sound good together.
If you don't have a tune in mind, just play around with those chords until you get something you like.
