I think the most obvious answer is The Beatles.
Pink Floyd did amazing stuff for the psychadelic rock genre.
Lynyrd Skynyrd did the same for Southern Rock.
Hendrix and Clapton for guitar.
And Neil Young doesn't get the credit he deserves, I think.
