Due to the poor performance of the movie in the states, it's unlikely that there will be a sequel, even though there are two books left in the series (the subtle knife being the next movie)!. However, the movie did do well in the international markets, so there could still be a sequel!.

The movie is based off the book Northern Lights/The Golden Compass!. It is part of a triology called His Dark Materials and the other two books are The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass!. There is also a prequel and several books that sort of 'come off of' the triology that happen at a later time!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I don't think anything official has been set yet!. There is more than one book so I wouldn't be surprised if another one comes out, plus the way they left it seemed very much like there would be another one!.
