What does it mean if a movie isn't "canon"?!

Question:

What does it mean if a movie isn't "canon"?

Answers:

"Canon" refers to the characters and how they would act. For example, if a character who, in a book, completely abhors violence of any kind, in a movie MADE from that book suddenly acts out violently without any EXPLANATION for a difference in their behavior, then that character is no "canon". EG- speaking from a specific TV show, for example, in "Hogan's Heroes," Sergeant Schultz always knows "nussing!" If in the upcoming movie, he is not only intelligent, but much less wishy-washy and ALMOST traitorous in his self-preservation ("sometimes, I have to be on OUR side!" he says when he acts unlike the prisoners expect him to), then if he was constantly threatening the prisoners and giving them no leeway whatsoever, or reusing the temptations of strudel all the time for no particular reason, that wouldn't be CANON. If Harry Potter turned into a cgeneral nasty person and there was no reason EVER given for that, that wouldn't be CANON. If a MOVIE isn't, it usually means that it isn't true to the characters created in the book or tv show or whatever.

Hope that helps!
