491 but it can also be 380 just depends which one you were thinking of
I'm not sure. But I've worked it out like so but I'm not sure if it's right.
Obviously it has to be a three digit number.
The first statement says that the first digit is 5 less than the 2nd digit. That immediatley crosses out 5,6,7,8 and 9. Leaving 0,1,2,3 and 4.
The second statement said that the 2nd digit is 8 more than the 3rd digit. So that crosses out 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7. Leaving just 8 and 9.
Which leaves the third digit to be either 0 or 1.
So the 3rd digit could either be 0 where:
0 + 8 = 8 to get the 2nd digit 8.
Then 8 - 5 = 3 to get the first digit.
So therefore that combination could be: 380
Or
The last digit could be 1 so:
1 + 8 = 9 so 9 = 2nd digit
Which means: 9 - 5 = 4
So the three digit number could be: 491
So all in all, the three digit number is either 380 or 491.
