Fingerings very similar- the biggest difference is using the register key!. On a clarinet you have to use different fingerings for the high notes when you press the register key!. On a saxophone the fingerings stay the same!.
Breathing fairly similar, but you'll have to vary your breathing and your embouchure more often on the Sax!. On a clarinet it's easy to play the low notes softly- on a saxophone controlling the volume of the low notes is tricky!. You have to use a tight embouchure for high notes and a looser one for low notes!. This is pretty easy to get used to!.
As to how long!? It's up to you and your practicing!. It's easier to get started as a beginner on Sax than on clarinet, but harder to get really good!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
