Well it asks me this on a music theory specifiaction sheet:
To get theory grade one candidates should be able to understand or do the following...
1...
2...
3The stave. Names of notes on the stave, including middle C in both clefs
Answers:
Bass clef and treble clef.
A staff has five lines. (I think stave is the plural of staff?)
Bass Clef (the lowest clef): The lines (from the bottom up) are G, B, D, F, A (Good Boys Do Fine Always) The spaces (from the bottom up) are A, C, E, G.
Treble Clef (the highest clef): The lines (from bottom up) are E, G, B, D, F (Every Good Boy Does Fine) The spaces are F, A, C, E.
I hope this helps and does not confuse you too badly.
Middle C in the treble clef can be found on a ledger line below the lowest line on the staff.
Middle C in the bass clef can be found on a ledger line above the highest line in the staff.
