The song was written by Leonard Cohen who took 5 years to write it and originally there were 15 verses, the lyrics of the version Cohen himself recorded is here:

As you will see his version has a more religious feel!.
The version being used by Alexandra, Jeff Buckley etc was adapted by John Cale using some of the other verses Cohen had written!.

The original was about King David, Solomon, Bathsheba and Samson and the only sexual reference was about David watching Bathsheba bathing!. It was on an LP called Positions but that's all!.
