According to the proper Arthurian legends, Mordred was the son of of the witch Morgana le Fey who Merlin fell in love with and taught all his secrets before she betrayed him!. Mordred grew up to become the sworn enemy of King Arthur and his Knights of the round table - the so called "Black Knight"!. He and Arthur ended up killing each other at the battle of Camlann (see link)!.
The "Merlin" series doesn't follow the Arthurian legends very closely and must be considered no more than and entertaining fantasy which tries to loosely incorporate them (e!.g!. the appearance of Lancelot a few weeks ago and now Mordred)!. Mordred emds up becoming Merins rival!. Merlin practices good magic whereas Mordred is into the darker side of things, I believe he also grows up with the aim of killing King Arthur and ruining everything that Uther, has tried to create by bringing in a new age but with a darker side!. I think he also tries turning all of Arthurs men against him which is part of a plan to ruin him!.
I love this series it is much more different to the film Merlin with Sam Neil but it gives you a different outlook on it, also with a few laughs as well!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

According to legend, Modred and Arther fight in a battle where Mordred is killed and Arthur Ftally injured!. Maybe Arthur died from it with merlin watching or something!?Www@Enter-QA@Com
