It was actually in Season 1, the episode called "Zip, Zip, Zip" that Barney and Robin first become "bros"!. Ted is off with his new girlfriend Victoria, and Barney is having issues being suddenly wingman-less!. Robin helps Barney out at the bar with some girls, he invites Robin to be his new bro/wingman and hits the town!. They go smoke cigars, play laser tag, and later battle ship (where Barney thinks he can hook up with Robin)!.
