Depends largely on what you like to watch!. For a while DirecTV had a BIG lead in HD channels, but Dish is evening that out!.!.!. so it's kind of a wash!.
If you're a big sports fan, DirecTV is the way to go, they have exclusive deals with most of the major sports leagues (for things like Sunday Ticket for NFL, etc!.) where you can get all the games -- for an additional cost!.
also!.!.!. music might be something to consider!. DirecTV has a deal with XM so you get their channels as well!. Dish has a deal with Sirius, so you can get their channels on your system there -- who knows how the merger of XM/Sirius will affect this!.)
I have had both in my life and prefer DirecTV, but I'm a big sports fan!. They have a ton of HD channels which is about all I watch anymore!.

i have dish network and never have any problems - had some billing issues but customer service was great and took care of it!. In my area, Dish network is cheaper than directv
