Completely agree with Amy K!. Will definitely have to read the book now! Best TV this year! I was hooked every Sunday night, and never even hearing of this story before, I just wanted a happy ending for Tess!. (Doh! I didn't realise it was a tragedy!) I cried soooo much!! Gemma Artinson was brilliant as Tess and made me really feel for her, in fact all the actors were brilliant, I think it was played out superbly!. I've been thinking about it all day like it's real life!.!.!.If only she'd just left Alec without killing him!.!.!.If only she and Angel kept on travelling!.!.!. Then I think 'It's only fiction for goodness sake!!'
I think she killed Alec because if she'd left him to be with Angel he would have tracked her down and would probably have killed Angel, so she sacrificed her own happiness for Angels life!. And to have a few days of complete bliss with him, and die at the hands of the executioners would beat another minute being married to Alec!.
I can't believe I never knew this story before, but I am so glad I do now! Thanks BBC!Www@Enter-QA@Com

the novel isn't even that good so I didn't bother watching it!.

In my view Hardy tried to portray Tess as someone sweet and innocent but to me she came across as rather calculating and manipulative at times like she was flirting with Angel even though she didn't want to get involved!. also, why the heck did she marry Alec!? A pretty spineless character if you ask me but I am glad you liked the drama on BBCWww@Enter-QA@Com

I thought it was really good, and it made me cry to!. I think she killed Alec because she knew that the few days of happiness she would have with Angel would be better than a lifetime of unhappiness with Alec!. I haven't read the book yet, but after the drama being really good, i think i might have to :)
