ok so i'm watching iron chef america right now and i have a few questions!.!.!.
1) ok, so it's called a secret ingredient, but how do they always have a recipe (or five) to cook it!? do they find out what they're gonna be cooking with ahead of time or something!?
2) during Presentation, you only see the chefs make one plate of each dish and then time runs out!. so i was wondering, after the final buzzer, do they get to have some real time to prepare the plates before giving them to the judges!? (because ya know that presentation is worth a good bit of the scored as well)
3) who is you're favorite iron chef (Mario Batali

Answers:
1) I saw a special on Iron Chef America on Food Network and they said that the ingredient is revealed about 15 minutes before they have to start cooking, so the chefs have some time to prepare!. Most of them probably don't need it though!. I've been cooking in restaurants for 8 years now and I've never worked with anyone who is of the same caliber as these chefs!. They are some of the best and it's not unusual that they can come up with elaborate recipes quickly and from memory!. Sometimes they're just improvising too!.
2) Sometimes you can see the chefs preparing more than one plate, or maybe their sous chefs are in charge of making sure there's enough for each judge!. But I wouldn't be surprised if the chefs have a time to get all their plates together after the buzzer!. Remember, these shows will show whatever makes for good TV and for good drama, so a countdown and a deadline is exciting, so they show it!. It doesn't necessarily mean that the chefs are held to these deadlines!. They can always stop the cameras for a second and make sure all the plates are good to go!. The producers are going to do whatever makes for the best television, even if it means fudging the truth and showing things a little differently than they actually happen!.
3) I think Morimoto usually makes the best food, but I like it when Mario Batali is the chef!. He knows what he's doing (they all do really), and he's entertaining!. He'll always tell Kevin or Alton what it is he's making and he'll correct them when they get an ingredient wrong or if they can't figure out what he's got in mind!.
