l think his wife knew about him abusing her daughter, and she has sent her away for her own safety, and then set him up so he hangs!.
l think the young cop thought he was guilty when he agreed to do the documentary, but that the daughters mother has confessed all to him and now he has backed out of it because he's scared that the truth will come out and the mother will be punished!.

Its great!. I think he set Greg Wises character up, and poor Greg Wise will hang when he is innocent, the copper is bent!. i've not read the book so i'm just guessing!Www@Enter-QA@Com
