If I remember correctly from the old Tom Baker episodes!.!.!.its a "screwdriver" that works by manipulating sound frequencies and energy currents so that it can unlock any door and alter matter!.!.!. they poke fun at it themselves within the series that even when first developed as a tool for the Doctor that it quickly went from a quick fix in one or two episodes to this all-powerful, any-use crutch for the writers!. They have a hard time justifying it ultimately but its all part of The Who's campy charm!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
