Then act really surpirsed when the judges tell them the reality, they are awful!? Are they insane or just deluded!?

Because they don't actually hear what we are hearing, I bet none of them have actually recorded themselves and played it back to listen to what they really sound like!.
All they know is that their friends and family have told them they have the "voice of an angel" and because the majority of them don't have anything else in their lives to cling to they believe what they are told!.
Specifically that crater-mouth blue coat on tonight's show who thought she was great, she really believed that a bunch of boozed-up holiday makers actually listened to her singing and thought she was great coz that's what her agent told her !!

its hilarious isn't it!? i think some of them do actually believe they can sing but alot of it has to be people doing it for a joke!. its great entertainment though, i love X-factor!Www@Enter-QA@Com
