I've always wondered!.!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Answers:
Because the first episode is called the 'pilot' episode - it's usually produced well before any other episodes, then shown around to executive network people until a network decides to pick up the series, then the rest of the series begins to be produced!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
As you probably know "All in The Family" is remembered as a classic sitcom but at the time the producers had to make three pilots just to sell the show to the network!.
The first episode for "All in The Family" that aired on TV in January of 1971 was actually the third pilot!. The previous two pilots were shot with a different actor for Mike (Rob Reiner) and actress Gloria (Sally Struthers)!.
When the first episode aired, the network had additional telephone operators available since they were expecting an outrage from the public - but just the reverse happened - the public loved it!Www@Enter-QA@Com
