Nobody actually killed Spike!. He wore the amulet that helped to close the Hellmouth and defeat the First Evil in 7!.22 "Chosen!." However, while it appeared that he was burned up, he was actually transported into the amulet himself and was rematerialized in season five of "Angel!."

He did, through self-sacrifice!. Much like Buffy did in the Season 5 finale!. By wearing the amulet, he channeled the energy necessary (which he wouldn't have been able to do unless he A!.) had a soul, and B!.) was a champion) to destroy the Hellmouth!.
