What is that production number for episodes and why isn't it in chronologica!

Question: What is that production number for episodes and why isn't it in chronological order in the series's timeline!?
At TV!.com or any other site that has episode lists for shows, they usually put in "Production Number" on the side of each episode, what's that for!? sometimes it's different from the episodes' airing order and even different from the show's timeline, for example the 90's Batman Animated Series, the 2nd episode according to the production number is "Christmas with the Joker" which had Robin in it, yet the episodes that come before and after it according to the prod# don't have Robin, so what's the deal!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
A production number just states the order in which episodes are filmed(and created)!. Episodes are filmed out of sequence for many reasons!. Like when guest stars and locations are available, somtimes even weather!.
It's the same within an episode!. All shots at one location are filmed before moving to the next location!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
