I think your harboured feelings of contempt for Kat are based on the fact that you, like many people of all races, are inherently mistrustful of foreigners!. Don't worry; a passive xenophobia is quite unremarkable!.
Other comments you make also suggest you have this national irrational obsession with other people's size or weight!. This displays a distinct lack of maturity and/or intelligence on your part!. You say you're a grown man but I severely doubt it from those very comments!. A truly rational, balanced and mature adult would never express such unwarranted hateful negativity toward another, especially a stranger!.
You also display worryingly misogynist tendancies regarding both Kat and Sarah!.!.!.!.!.!.once again criticising them both for physical attributes, you reference women almost as your inferiors but I get the feeling this is all tied up with some other issues you must have (which I can't even begin to guess at) but surely exist somewhere close to your obviously "peer-led perception of beauty"
All this plus an absolute lack of understanding of the Thai people and their culture would, indeed, absurdly magnify any doubts, niggles and annoyances into the "utter contempt" you say that you feel!.
Kat is a merely victim of her own naivety and the housemates/public's narrow views and life experiences!. I have two female Thai friends and they both speak the same way as Kat and both display what appears to be an almost pathological need to be happy!.
It's all about Buddhism !.!.!.anger and negativity are not acceptable parts of the Thai upbringing and are viewed as truly shocking and shameful which is why they seem childlike to our western eyes!.
