Answers:
the film was developed and then physically cut on a flat bed editing machine called a Steenbeck and reassembled, this is where the term" left on the cutting room floor" comes from!. All the left overs that just fell to the floor!. The audio also has to be synced with the picture that is why you see the guy with the sticks or the clapper!.!.!.when they say "scene 6 take 1" and the sticks come down!.!.!.that clap is to sync that scene with the audio!. There are still some film makers that use the old way of editing!. Television debuted in the 1930s and TV shows were edited the same way because videotape wasn't used until the late 60s and in the early days they actually cut the videotape before editing machines were developed where they could recored tape to tape!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

they had to phyically Cut each frame(s) of flim with a cutting device and then splice the film back together- this was done for many yrs to come!.

I found this from a simular Q at this site
Back in the ancient days before editing programs and computers to run them, movies were (and still are) shot on film!.
In very simple terms:
All the the film that is shot for the movie is developed, then run through a movieola, a small, motorized, sometimes hand-cranked, viewing device!. The film is then actually marked or physically cut, into the sections that will be used in the finished film; then the film is reassembled into the version (or "cut") that is the best the editor and director want to keep, and a master-print is made, from which all the viewing copies are made!.

I really don't know, but I will say that since moral standards were much higher back then than they are today, they probably didn't have to do much editing!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
